Available Options for the Coming Year
It is April and time to start thinking about what you might want to do this summer and next year. To facilitate this, I have included some links below that should help you.
The colleges Hannah and Lacee are currently attending:
If you would like to get your B.A. degree and still live at home, it is possible. Mclennan Community College in north Waco hosts the University Center which houses satellite colleges. They offer 52 degrees. It is about the same distance as driving to Athens, but my special back route offers a good road with little traffic. The second is A&M Commerce's satellite school at Navarro. They offer 4 degrees, but maybe there is one you like.
You miss out on college life (which I enjoyed) when you live at home and go to college, but living at home is far less expensive. On-campus living expenses currently cost far more than tuition at most schools. But it can be done. Barbara Lewis is considering buying a camper for Kaitlyn for future college housing, so there are options. This link below ranks the costs of Texas colleges, public and private, from least to greatest. The amount on the left is tuition plus housing. The amount on the right is tuition only.
Next there are a couple of Out-of-the-Box Thinking alternatives that could enhance whatever choices you make. There are many online video courses available. The first link focuses on free resources. A couple of years ago I took a class on chickens from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. It was cool. The second link is to The Great Courses. These are classes you purchase. They go on sale often so don't cost that much. Many famous universities are represented. I own 7 courses already. If you want to check them out, my login is marilyn@ourdyslexicchildren.org and password is rupert.
Another wild idea is to learn as much stuff from Mom and Dad as you can. Piano, voice, computer graphics, web page design, gardening, welding, wood turning, metal working, engine repair, plumbing, electrical work . . . etc.
Finally, I have included a link to Snagajob.Com which lists all of the part-time job openings in Corsicana. We haven't wanted to push you guys into anything you are not ready for. However, it is important that you get your feet wet at some point. Both Daddy and I know the value of these little jobs you have at first because it is here you learn your work ethic. And it can also reveal jobs you don't want or that are not a good fit for you.
